After Freeway Hours

Our time in Southern California is measured in part by what I dub the “After Freeway Hours.” For many of us, we spend time on the road battling traffic to and from appointments, work, soccer games, and any other event which occurs outside of our living space. So much time is devoted to being on the road that we sometimes end up frazzled by the time we reach home base.

It is imperative to have a space to retreat to after the day is done. A place where you feel truly at peace and fully alive. It can be a shared space that encourages harmony with the other inhabitants, or even a place to call your very own.

My very own space is the master bath. To soak away the day is magic in the gorgeous remodeled bathroom I created for my own house. It calls to me from far away and lets me know it’s time to take a breath, take a break. My house is my sanctuary, my cacoon. I share it with my partner and my wonderful dog, Hank.

Together we have created a place that is fabulous enough to entertain, with cozy away nooks to nap and relax. The outdoors is a continuation of the feeling created inside the house. The garden and flowers are magical relaxants akin to a nice bottle of wine which also goes well with the after freeway hours.

My outdoor room encourages spontaneous napping and bird watching for the adults and squirrel chasing for Hank. The amazing feeling that is evoked by the surroundings and the care taken to put it all together is often discussed during parties.

As I design spaces for my clients, I ask hundreds of questions to fully understand what they want and what they need. These can then be addressed in my designs with the goal of using both needs and desires to create the perfect space.

I create unique spaces for my clients that are fully customized to their personalities, requirements, and aesthetic desires. No idea is too extreme…as long as it makes the clients and their guests feel truly at peace, fulfilled and creative for the after freeway hours.

If you can’t wait to get home after work, I’ve done my job. I have clients who can’t believe the way my designs have changed their lives and transformed their spaces. This is truly what brings me joy in my life and bliss in my business.

Changes that I have seen: Changing an unused living room into a reading room created new bonds with a mother and child who now read together in the cozy chair and a half.

Bringing soft finishes to walls and ceilings in a home with jagged edges and too-high ceilings smoothed the entire flavor of the house and created a sense of cozy that had not been experienced there since the house was purchased.

In my own life, a gorgeous new kitchen actually inspired me to become a cook (note, not a chef yet…J) These examples are just the beginning of what design can do to transform your space, transform your “After Freeway Hours”, and change the way you live.
